Frequently asked questions
Plain-English answers to common questions about the NDIS and working with us.
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government scheme that funds supports for people with permanent and significant disability. It's designed to help people live more independently, pursue their goals and take part in their community.
Who is eligible for the NDIS?
In general, to be eligible you need to:
- be under 65 when you apply
- live in Australia and be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Special Category Visa holder
- have a permanent and significant disability, or be a young child who needs early support
The NDIS website has an eligibility checklist if you're unsure.
How do I apply for the NDIS?
You can call the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or complete an access request form, along with evidence of your disability from your treating health professionals. If you're not sure where to start, give us a call and we'll talk you through the process.
What types of support are available?
The NDIS can fund a wide range of supports, including help with daily living, getting out in the community, building skills and independence, transport, therapies, assistive technology and home modifications. What's funded depends on your individual needs and goals.
How is NDIS funding allocated?
Funding is based on the supports that are reasonable and necessary for your disability. The NDIA works out a budget from your support needs and goals, and your plan sets out how that funding can be used.
What is an NDIS plan?
Your plan is a document that sets out your goals, the supports you're funded for, how your funding will be managed (by the NDIA, a plan manager or yourself) and when your plan will be reviewed.
How do I choose an NDIS provider?
There are many NDIS providers to choose from. When selecting one, consider their experience, reputation and the services they offer, and whether they're a good fit for you. A registered provider, like Connectivity Care Solutions, meets the NDIS Practice Standards.
Can I change my NDIS provider?
Yes. You have choice and control over who supports you. Check your service agreement for any notice period, then let your current provider know and arrange a start date with your new one.
What if I need more support than my plan covers?
If your needs or circumstances change, you can contact the NDIA to ask for your plan to be changed or reassessed. A support coordinator can help you gather the information you'll need.
